Coach Rafael Benitez, unable to find his team's game, decided to publicly respond to the criticism of the strongest European club of last season that is appearing more and more frequently in the media.

The defending champions of the UEFA Champions League, who started the new season very unsuccessfully, are currently in 13th place in the English championship and lag behind the leader Chelsea by 18 points. To make matters worse, this week the English unexpectedly lost to a second division team and withdrew from the country's cup competition.

"Many people last season said that this Liverpool team is the worst in the past 40 years," explained R. Benitez. "Then we won the Champions League and the Super Cup, which proves that a team cannot be judged just two and a half months after the start of the season."

"You have to wait until the end of the season and then decide whether it was a good or bad season."

Despite only scoring 5 goals in the first 8 league games, the Spaniard insisted that this season's team is better than last season's.

"The current team is more stable. We are playing on par with good teams, although we want to win, but for me it means that we are better than last year. The problem is in the league table - we have played two games less than Chelsea. If we win both, we will be in the top four," he said.

The experienced and acclaimed Spanish coach also claimed that a victory in Saturday's match against can change people's opinion about the European champions.

"I am a person who analyzes a lot. In football, many things can change in just one week. For example, the England national team - I remember last month when they lost a match and everyone was against the coach and criticized the team."

"In the next match, England secured a ticket to the World Cup and now everyone says that the English are capable of winning the tournament," he added.
