London football club denied rumors that they had paid illegal bonuses to former team striker Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink.

One of Sunday newspapers claims that the Dutchman admits to receiving a bonus worth around 50 thousand from Russian millionaire Roman Abramovich for defeating the eleven in the quarterfinals of the Champions League in 2004.

The leaders of the Premier League strongly deny these rumors: "We have not made any payments that would violate the rules regulated by the Premier League and the Football Association."

"The League has informed us about this and we distance ourselves from the baseless accusations. There is nothing to investigate."

According to the rules of the English Premier League, it is not lawful to offer footballers increased "prizes" at the start of the season.
