In July 2004, when he arrived at a London club, Jose Mourinho introduced himself as an "exceptional" coach. He justified his reputation with constant victories on the field and never-ending scandalous comments beyond its limits.
His latest outburst targeted his colleague from Arsenal, Arsene Wenger, whom he called a "voyeur", constantly talking about the Premier League champions: "I don't even know if he wants my job. He just fell in love with Chelsea."
Throughout that period, there was hardly a week when J. Mourinho did not express his sharp opinion. Here are some of the best "pearls" from him:
About winning the Premier League - May 2005 "This is just the beginning, not the end. I want more, I want to achieve everything for myself and Chelsea."
About losing to Liverpool in the Champions League - May 2005 "That goal came as if from the moon – more precisely from the Anfield stands."
"The strongest team lost. After they pushed forward, there was only one team left on the field playing, and the other desperately defending."
"Liverpool" scored a goal, if we can say so, because more accurately we should say that the linesman scored for them."
"However, they made it to the final, and I sincerely wish them to win it. This evening belongs to Liverpool, so I don't want to criticize them."
About Manchester United - May 2005 "I saw their players and the manager go around in a circle of honor after losing to us. If someone dared to do that in Portugal, they would be pelted with bottles."
About Arsenal, their vice-president, and FA board member David Dein - July 2005 "A person who belongs to a club should not work for the FA. Let the FA remain the FA, and the club the club."
"I don't care at all how "Chelsea's" morals are perceived. What makes me worry is that we are treated differently than others. It's like with some clubs, they treat them as angels, and with the rest, like devils. I don't think we are so repulsive and similar to Satan, and you certainly won't convince me that Arsene Wenger and David Dein are such angels."
"Is Jose Mourinho the only person who looks at the match schedule and finds something suspicious?"
About the Champions League - September 2005 "I try not to dwell on the past. What happened last season was the consequence of something. So, if this is a completely normal tournament without any oddities, I will gladly be a good boy and behave properly."
About the start of the season for Chelsea - October 2005 "We played eight matches and won eight, scoring 16 goals, and everyone keeps saying that we can't play and we are a bunch of clowns. That is unfair."
About ending Everton's winning streak - October 2005 "Everyone just cries that Chelsea constantly wins and wins, and wins, so I thought a draw at Goodison Park would be a happy novelty for many. This gives people hope and brings to the Premier League what everyone was waiting for."
"It may sound foolish, but I think we deserved three points because we scored two goals, and when you score two and concede one, you usually win the match."
About losing to Charlton in the League Cup - October 2005 "I want to congratulate them on their victory. However, we were still the better team, we didn't lose this match. After ninety minutes, the result was tied, it was still tied after two hours. We only lost after a penalty shootout."
About constant victories - October 2005 "Everyone is just waiting for Chelsea to lose, and probably one day when we do lose, it will be declared a national holiday. But we are prepared for that."
About Arsenal's failed French penalty shootout - October 2005 "It's interesting why they tried to play that penalty shootout. I think it's because during the season they can take so many penalty shootouts, that's why. Sometimes they want to do something special and unique."
About Arsene Wenger - October 2005 "I think A. Wenger is one of those voyeurs, people who like to watch others. There are those who, while at home, take a large telescope and observe what is happening in other households. He keeps talking and talking about Chelsea."
