One of the outsiders of this season's Italian "Serie A" league denied seeking a fourth coach this season - on Monday, Davide Ballardini became the third coach dismissed from this position in the past three months.
It was announced that the coach had been dismissed from the position of head coach after the goalless draw in the last match against "Treviso", but unexpectedly the club denied such news on Tuesday.
The Sardinian team had only their fifth draw this season on Sunday - with no wins, "Cagliari" with five points is currently in second to last place in the standings.
The 41-year-old Ballardini is the longest-serving coach in "Cagliari" this season compared to his predecessors - he has already been with the club for almost two months. Attilio Tesser, who started the season with the team, was dismissed after the first match, and Daniele Arrigoni resigned after a little over two weeks.
If the coach is indeed dismissed, his place will most likely be taken by the experienced Carlo Mazzone, who has been without a job for several months after leaving the "Bologna" club. The 69-year-old coach has already managed the Sardinian team from 1991 to 1993 and also in the 1996-97 season.
Meanwhile, after announcing the coach's dismissal following the weekend matches, it seems they changed their mind and at least temporarily, until they better assess the situation and possibilities, left coach Ezio Rossi in his position.
Nevertheless, it is believed that this is just an attempt to buy time in the search for a new coach, with Alberto Cavasin and Giuseppe Papadopulo being mentioned as contenders for the position.
