Next season, Marijampolė may be left without their 24-year-old attacking leader, Tom Radzinevičius. Determined to test his skills in a higher-level team, the most productive player of the Suvalkija club left for a trial with a team in Prague after the end of the "A League" championship.
This Czech team, a regular participant in the Champions League, became the champion of their country last season, but are performing poorly in the 2005-2006 season. With only 13 points from 12 matches, the team ranks eleventh out of sixteen teams with 4 wins, 1 draw, and 7 losses. They are trailing the leading Liberec "Slovan" team by a whopping 14 points. Currently, the Czech championship is on a break.
"I will be at the trial in Prague for about ten days. I think it's time for me to go abroad, test myself in a higher caliber team," said Radzinevičius to the official "A League" website.
When asked about his chances of signing a contract with "Sparta," one of the most productive players of the 2005 Lithuanian football championship replied, "It's difficult to assess in advance. I will be able to say more once I see the team. However, if they call me, maybe I am worth it."
The season ended very successfully for T. Radzinevičius, especially in the second half - in 2005, the forward felt the taste of goals and scored 25 times in the Lithuanian championship. This year, the only player who scored more goals than the "Sūduva" striker was the captain and leader of the "Ekrano" team from Panevėžys, Mantas Savėnas, with 27 goals.
Three years ago, T. Radzinevičius was named the best football player in Lithuania and was later called up to the national team, where he played in 13 matches. However, in almost all of them, the forward came on the field from the substitutes' bench.
