Munich officially withdrew their offer to extend the contract of team captain Michael Ballack, which expires this summer, announced the president of the German club on Monday.
"Today we officially withdrew the offer," said Bayern president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge at the club's annual meeting on Monday.
The president stated that he spoke with 29-year-old M. Ballack on Monday, and the player has not yet decided on the offer to extend his contract.
"This does not mean that Michael will definitely leave us, but I want to be clear - from tomorrow onwards we will be looking for a player who could replace Michael," Rummenigge said.
It is reported that nearly all of the top European football clubs are actively interested in the German "Player of the Year" Ballack: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, Milan, and Juventus.
There is a possibility that if Ballack decides not to extend his contract, Bayern would seek to sell their captain during the winter transfer window. Ballack's contract with the German national team will end next June, and then he will be free to choose a new club.
During his career at Bayern Munich, Ballack has won two Bundesliga titles, lifted the German Cup twice, but he has expressed his desire several times to lift the UEFA Champions League trophy.
