The Spanish Football League (LFP) has requested the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to revoke the player's license of Argentine representative Lionel Messi.
In an official statement published on the internet, the LFP asks the RFEF to revoke L. Messi's license, motivated by the fact that his Spanish citizenship was granted after the registration deadline of August 31.
L. Messi was granted Spanish citizenship on September 26, and he debuted as a young defender in Barcelona at the beginning of October.
The investigation began after complaints from the teams Deportivo La Coruña and Alaves Vitoria. These clubs claimed that the special conditions for the Catalan superclub violate the continuity of other clubs.
In their statement, the LFP also states that if the RFEF does not grant the request, the LFP will appeal to the Spanish Sports Arbitration.
According to the RFEF rules, Spanish clubs can have no more than three non-European Union players. In the Barcelona team, these three spots are occupied by the forward Samuel Eto'o from Cameroon, as well as Ronaldinho from Brazil and defender Rafael Marquez from Mexico.
