In the future, there are preparations to ban the ultras from visiting "The Valley" stadium, as there were many incidents in the last meeting of these teams on Saturday.
One passionate fan of the "Red Devils" spent the weekend in custody after sexually harassing a policewoman. Charlton's executive director Peter Varney stated: "We sincerely want to thank the other Man Utd fans who witnessed this and provided testimony."
Three fans were detained after rushing onto the field when the away team scored their second goal. Ruud van Nistelrooy, who scored the goal, ran towards the ultras with a group of United players to celebrate the victory. Soon after, a huge crowd of United fans in the stands moved towards the field, broke through the metal gates, and stormed onto one of the stadium workers.
"I think when we see the reports from the police and local authorities, we will have no other choice but to not allow Man Utd fans into The Valley stadium," added Varney. "I would rather deal with an empty away stand than risk getting involved in similar incidents."
However, Charlton was warned that ignoring away fans must be approved by the Premier League Board. This prevents Charlton from taking unilateral action, as this ban must first be approved by the Premier League Board.
On the other hand, Man Utd promised to fight for their fans and oppose any bans.
"We will wait for the decision of the FA Premier League Board, after the reports from the police and referees have been presented," said a United spokesperson. "We take these incidents very seriously, but we do not believe that all our ultras should suffer because of the behavior of a few."
