A.Ferguson calm about the Champions League © EuroFootball.com

The head coach Sir Alex Ferguson is convinced that despite the draw with his team, they will successfully overcome the Champions League group stage barrier.

"United" must beat "Benfica" in the final match in Lisbon, or play a draw and hope that "Lille" will not resist against "Villarreal."

After the match ending with a 0-0 result, A. Ferguson stated: "I think we are in quite good form and have confidence in our abilities. Of course, we have a huge job ahead, but we have been in a similar situation before, and I still remain optimistic. The team's form is improving, plus "Benfica" also needs only a victory. We are facing a great atmosphere, a magnificent stadium, and constant pressure, so I expect impressive match. We can only think about victory. On the other hand, the same can be said about any team, so the situation is very open. We know that every club will surely try to win."

A. Ferguson expressed his displeasure with "Villarreal's" time-wasting tactics: "They defended from the first minute. They clearly wasted time, so I cannot believe that the referee added only 3 minutes. They wasted time throughout the whole game, but that's European football. I think we deserved more than a draw, we needed so little, but it didn't work out."

Cristiano Ronaldo missed a good opportunity to score in the final minutes of the match, but A. Ferguson's reaction was calm: "He is excellent at heading and had opportunities that he didn't take. In fact, all of that crushed us at the end of the match. We took a big risk by sending Louis Saha and pushing with all our might, but taking risks and trying to win this match was worth it. We always do that."
