Arsene Wenger is convinced that despite the victory against "Thun", which helped the London club secure the top spot in the UEFA Champions League group, the "Gunners" still have a lot of hard work ahead of them.
"Of course, this gives us confidence in our abilities, but we are not going to relax. The real competition starts now, in the knockout stages, where a loss means elimination. It was very important to finish the job with a victory and maintain the first place - we could not achieve more. In the round of 16, this guarantees us a match against the team that finished second in the other group, but playing against them is not always easy," said A. Wenger.
Despite the numerical advantage that "Arsenal" had for a long time against "Thun", the victory was only achieved through huge efforts. The Swiss team played with ten men for most of the match as Armand Deumi was sent off the field, but Robert Pires scored the winning goal from the penalty spot in the 87th minute.
Wenger noted: "The game was equal until we were playing 11 against 11. I was not happy when the referee sent off the opponent's player, but I think he had no other choice. Later, the pace of the match slowed down and became monotonous. Our players were a bit distracted because they felt that the game would be easier. Understandably, the opponents could no longer attack us so intensively, but after the break, they were still dangerous."
