After the end of the Russian championship, only a week passed before the clubs started preparing for the new season. The mid-table club Tomsk, which has two Lithuanians in its squad, announced the appointment of a new coach. The new coach is Valerijus Petrakovas, who has already trained the club before.
According to the official club statement, the famous Russian coach Anatoly Bishovets, who had been in charge of Tomsk club for only three months and whose contract was supposed to be valid until the end of December, has already left the club. However, due to official agreements, V. Petrakovas will officially take over the team only at the beginning of January.
"We saw A. Bishovets' level as a coach, and it was clear that his move to a more famous team was just a matter of time," said the director of "Tom." "We didn't want the team to be left without a coach, so we agreed with V. Petrakovas."
V. Petrakovas has already managed "Tom" from 2001 to 2003.
Ranked 10th in the Russian championship, "Tom" will start preparing for the new season on January 6 in Cyprus, and later move to Spain. The club statement claims that almost all players will go to the training camp, but there are four exceptions, including a Lithuanian player. This probably means that the Lithuanian national team goalkeeper will leave the Russian club in the near future.
Former "Kaunas" goalkeeper Andrius Gedgaudas, who arrived in Tomsk in August of this year, appeared in only one match on the field - he entered the game only in the last six minutes of the match against Amkar Perm, which "Tom" won 3-0.
Meanwhile, another Lithuanian defender, who has managed to establish himself in the starting lineup and has played 10 matches for the team, will start preparing for the new season. The new team coach told journalists that there will be "no major changes in the team."
