The president of the German champions Bayern Munich, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, admitted on Tuesday that the French defender Willy Sagnol will leave the club after his contract expires and will most likely move to the Turin team "Juventus" in the summer.
For several weeks, 28-year-old W. Sagnol has been linked with the Italian champions, and recently the French national team defender himself fueled the rumors by stating that he is "tempted by one of the strongest clubs in the world."
Today, K.H. Rummenigge finally put an end to the speculation, confirming that the player should follow the example of former Bayern defender Roberto Kovac and move to Turin after his contract ends. With "Juve," the footballer is expected to sign a four-year contract earning around 2.5 million euros per season.
"Unfortunately, after Roberto Kovac, 'Juve' snatched another player from us for peanuts," regretted the Bayern president. "All of this is no longer in our hands, nothing can be done. We simply cannot compete economically with the Turin club."
Having set a strict policy in terms of salaries, "Bayern" is in trouble as W. Sagnol will not be the only one leaving the Munich team next summer. Besides the Frenchman, at the end of the season, nine more players, including one of the team's leaders Michael Ballack and the Brazilian goalkeeper Ze Roberto, will have their contracts expire and they will be able to freely choose a new team.
