In the only Wednesday's Premier League match in England, Liverpool, who finished the tenth match with a score of 2-0, defeated bottom-of-the-table Sunderland at home and won their fifth consecutive victory in the English championship.
Spanish Luis Garcia's goal in the 31st minute and Steven Gerrard's goal just before half-time allowed Liverpool to celebrate three points. Both goals were scored after passes from Spanish national team defender Xabi Alonso.
The mood of the Liverpool fans was slightly dampened in the 65th minute when midfielder Momo Sissoko received a second yellow card.
It is worth mentioning that striker Peter Crouch, who was substituted at the end of the match, has not scored a goal in almost 24 hours spent on the pitch.
