Next season, the country's vice-champions, the football players of FBK "Kaunas," may once again be trained by a foreigner. The new head coach of "Kaunas" is expected to be the famous Belarusian football specialist Eduardas Malofejevas.

Yesterday, the 63-year-old coach arrived in Lithuania and met with "Kaunas" owner Vladimir Romanov, but according to club president Gintaras Ugianskis, the Belarusian has not yet been appointed to lead the team and is currently only a candidate for the head coach position.

"Our club is interested and communicates with several coaches. E. Malofejevas has not been confirmed as the head coach of "Kaunas" yet. However, he is one of the candidates for this position," said Gintaras Ugianskis officially to the website of the "A Lyga."

According to him, "Kaunas" will start preparing for the new season on December 15, when the new strategist will be introduced to the team.

Recently, E. Malofejevas led the football academy of Minsk's "MTZ-Ripo" club. "MTZ-Ripo," like "Kaunas," and the Scottish club "Hearts" from Edinburgh, belong to the Lithuanian businessman, the main shareholder of "Ūkio Bankas," V. Romanov.

In 1982, the team led by E. Malofejevas became the champion of the USSR. From 1984 to 1986, E. Malofejevas worked as the head coach of the USSR national team, and from 2001 to 2003 - as the head coach of the Belarusian national team.

Meanwhile, another specialist from Belarus, Sergei Borovskis, who coached "Kaunas" two years ago, will not return to Lithuania in the near future - the 50-year-old strategist will work in his homeland and lead the team of Brest's "Dinamo" after coaching Vilnius' "Vėtra" in the 2005 season and leaving after his contract expired.
