39-year-old Brazilian Romario denied rumors about the end of his career and stated his intention to play for at least another year and maybe score his thousandth goal.

The former member of the Brazilian national team, recently becoming the most productive Brazilian footballer at the age of 22 and breaking his own record as the highest scoring player, refuted skeptics' predictions after the last season, which was very unsuccessful for Romario: the veteran, unable to play due to injuries and losing form, was released from Fluminense.

"Many critics said that I should have ended my career several years ago," said Romario representing Vasco de Gama on Brazilian television. "But I will continue to play and hopefully do it well. I hope to play for at least another year."

Romario, who will turn 40 in January, started his professional career in 1985 and since then has scored 941 goals in 1058 matches.
