Yesterday late in the evening, former England national team defender Paul Gascoigne was arrested for assaulting a photographer in Liverpool.
Recently, P. Gascoigne was coaching the Gateshead club in the regional league, but on Monday he was fired, citing alcohol-related problems as the main reason for this decision.
"The 38-year-old former professional footballer was arrested at 11:30 p.m. yesterday evening. Now he is being held in Merseyside police custody," said the police commissioner.
In the past, the eccentric P. Gascoigne played for clubs such as Newcastle, AS Roma, Lazio, Tottenham, Rangers, and Middlesbrough.
In his defense, the footballer claimed that at the time he is accused of committing the crime, he was drinking whiskey and brandy in a bar with friends.
On Wednesday, the former famous player was released from custody after questioning.
