On Tuesday, the NFKA "A League" season closing ceremony took place at the "Forum Palace" sports, entertainment and business center in Vilnius. The teams that won prize-winning places in the Lithuanian "A League" championship were honored. The best player of the "A League", chosen by the players themselves who competed in the championship, was awarded.
The event was lively hosted by entertainer Rolandas Kazlas. His witty remarks were accompanied by applause and laughter from the audience.
The strongest Lithuanian football teams were congratulated by the President of the National Football Clubs Association (NFKA) Gintaras Ugianskis. "This year's championship was very interesting, we saw many beautiful goals, referees showed both yellow and red cards. We hope that next year the championships will be even more interesting, attracting more spectators," said G. Ugianskis.
He informed that the 2006 "A League" season will start on April 2. "There will be some innovations. We are planning to hold the Baltic Cup competitions," said the president of NFKA board.
The new country champions, the football players of Panevezys "Ekranas", were awarded with gold medals by the President of the Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF) Liutauras Varanavicius. "I wish Ekranas to repeat this victory next year," he said.
LFF President awarded the Lithuanian champions' cup to the captain of "Ekranas" Mantas Savenas. The players of Panevezys chose him as the best player of the championship. The prize was presented to M. Savenas by the best Lithuanian football player of this year, David Semberas, a player of Moscow's "CSKA".
D. Semberas, chosen as the best Lithuanian football player of 2005, was congratulated and awarded by the NFKA President G. Ugianskis. Comedian R. Kazlas wished David a salary like the famous David Beckham. David's wife, singer Agne, also congratulated him on this honorable title.
Silver medals were given to the players of FBK "Kaunas" who won the second place by NFKA manager Vaidas Benesevicius. Only half of the "Kaunas" football players were present to receive them. There were no team foreigners, as Arturas Rimkevicius and Nerijus Maciulis traveled to Romania with the Lithuanian indoor football team.
The bronze medals were awarded to the Marijampole "Suduva" football players who took the third place by G. Ugianskis. Among them was the striker Tomas Radzinevicius, who recently signed a contract with the Liberec "Slovan" team, which released him to attend the season closing festivities.
