Mateja Kežman, a striker for the national teams of Madrid, Serbia, and Montenegro, will not play for about six weeks due to a right knee injury, the Spanish club announced on Thursday.
The 26-year-old striker has been suffering from knee pain for some time now and played in the Spanish league match against "Alaves" last Sunday. It was in this match that the Serb injured his right knee, worsening the situation.
On Friday, M. Kežman will undergo surgery, after which he will not play for about six weeks. Therefore, the striker is likely to return to the field only at the beginning of February.
"It's never good to get injured, but now is a good time - vacation," commented M. Kežman on the injury. "I am sure that I will return to the field soon."
In the selection for the 2006 World Cup cycle, M. Kežman was the most productive player for the national team of Serbia and Montenegro with five goals, helping to secure a spot.
