The presidents' council of Latvian football clubs debated the fate of the country's championship ("Virsliga") system on Thursday.

Two options were proposed - to leave eight teams in the championship or to increase the number of teams to ten. According to the Latvian Football Federation, the club presidents voted for the old system.

In the 2006 season, the following teams will compete for the Latvian champions title: Liepaja's "Metalurg", Riga's "Skonto", "Ventspils", Daugavpils' "Dinaburg", "Riga", "Jurmala", Rezekne's "Dizvanagi" and Daugavpils' "Ditton".
