The agent of Spanish superclub forward Javier Saviola, Brizuela (Alfredo Cabrera Brizuela), claims that the club's board is pressuring his client to agree to a salary cut, or threatening to sell the player.
In the summer of 2001, Saviola was bought by Barcelona for £15.7 million (about 81 million litas) by the then club president Joan Gaspart.
The vice president of the Catalan club, Ferran Soriano, told Barcelona radio that the player must agree to a 40% lower salary, otherwise he will be sold.
Saviola was very surprised by Soriano's statement and decided to meet with the club president Joan Laporta. During the meeting, the president assured that the contract signed by the player with the former president would be respected.
Lately, Saviola has been showing good form on the field, replacing the injured Patrick Kluivert.
