The goalkeeper of the Lithuanian national team returns to the homeland - an experienced player signed a two-year contract with Vilnius, as reported by the official website of the capital's club on Thursday. Last season, the Lithuanian spent time playing for the "Sundsvall" team in Sweden.
"The Swedish club invited me to stay for another year, but after receiving an offer from 'Vėtra,' I chose the Lithuanian team without hesitation, which will play in European tournaments next season and has high expectations in the Lithuanian championship," the footballer justified his choice.
Throughout his career abroad, D. Vencevičius played for clubs in Poland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Malta. Starting his career at Vilnius' "Žalgiris" team, in 1992 the player became a Lithuanian champion and won the country's cup four times, and in 2001, with "Kobenhavn," D. Vencevičius won the Danish championship.
In the Lithuanian national team, D. Vencevičius played 32 matches. The goalkeeper was invited to the Lithuanian national team for friendly matches against the "Murcia" team from the Andalusian region of Spain, which will take place on December 28.
Over the past two years, D. Vencevičius has returned to Vilnius twice and represented the "Šviesa" team, which later changed its name to "Vilnius." Interestingly, in the upcoming season, he may form a tandem in the middle of the defense line of the "Vėtra" team with Aidas Preikšaitis, with whom they have played for many years for the legendary Vilnius team "Žalgiris."
With new sponsors on board, "Vėtra" does not hide its ambitious plans for the future and is one of the most active clubs in the offseason. Recently, negotiations were held with experienced Moscow "Spartak" defender Yuri Kovtun, while contracts with the team were extended for Nerijus Sasnauskas and Šarūnas Litvinas.
