In the last match of this season in the Spanish championship ("La Liga"), the unexpected season called "Osasuna" won a victory, recovering from a missed goal and beating Madrid's "Atletico" 2-1 at home.
The match at Pamplona's "El Sadar" stadium started evenly for both teams, with striker Savo Miloševičius leaving the field due to injury in the 15th minute. It seemed that the situation for "Atletico" improved, but the substitution of the Serbian by Bernardo Romeo later had a decisive impact on the result of the match.
The visitors took the lead in the 26th minute, when the ball deflected off the frozen grass after a shot by Gabi, hit the post, and fell right in front of Martin Petrov, who sent the ball into the net without error.
However, "Osasuna" needed just three minutes to equalize: after a great pass from the Argentine B. Romeo, Luis Garcia, in excellent form, beat the "Atletico" goalkeeper, and six minutes later, after a counterattack following a pass from Ludovico Delporte from the left, B. Romeo himself scored and changed the score.
In the second half, "Osasuna" completely dominated: B. Romeo, chosen as the best player of the match, hit the goal frame twice, while "Atletico" failed to create a single opportunity to equalize.
"Osasuna", winning their ninth consecutive home victory this season, ranks second with 38 points after 17 matches, trailing only two points behind the impressively playing "Barcelona", who have won 13 matches in a row in all competitions.
Meanwhile, "Atletico" weakened Argentine Carlos Bianchi's position at the helm, remaining winless in eight matches. Currently, the Madrid club occupies only 12th place with 19 points.
"Valencia" finished in third place with 32 points after Wednesday's 3-0 victory over "Mallorca", while "Villarreal" took fourth place, playing a 0-0 draw with "Malaga" in this round. "Real Madrid" and La Coruña's "Deportivo" share fifth place.
