Laurent Fournier was dismissed from the head coach position, and he will be replaced by former Sochaux coach Guy Lacombe, announced the Parisian club on Tuesday.
L. Fournier, who became the first Ligue 1 coach to lose his job this year, led the Paris club for just under 11 months. In September, Italian Francesco Guidolin replaced Didier Deschamps at Monaco, but the latter left the head coach position of his own accord.
G. Lacombe signed a two-and-a-half year contract with the Parisian suburb club San Germain and will start working with the new team on Wednesday.
"A new season begins tomorrow. Guy Lacombe doesn't feel any pressure," commented PSG president Pierre Blayau on the appointment of the new coach.
PSG currently occupies sixth place in the twenty-team tournament after 19 rounds, with 31 points, and are only one point behind second-placed RC Lens. However, they are lagging behind the fantastic performances of Lyon this year by a huge thirteen-point margin.
G. Lacombe had been unemployed since the summer when he left Sochaux.
