The new club's coach became former Leverkusen strategist Klaus Augenthaler. The coach, replacing his colleague Holger Fach, who was fired last week, signed a contract with the Bundesliga club valid until 2007.
Along with H. Fach, the club, which currently holds 13th place in the German championship, recently said goodbye to "Wolfsburg" sports director Thomas Strunz, who will be replaced in this position by 54-year-old Klaus Fuchs, who has been working as the club's general manager for six years and will continue to remember his old duties along with the new role.
48-year-old K. Augenthaler, as a player with the German national team, won the 1990 World Cup, and at the club level, he always represented the Munich "Bayern" team. In 2003, he took over as coach of Leverkusen's "Bayer" and helped the team return to the Champions League, but in September of the following year, after the club's most unsuccessful start in the Bundesliga in 23 years, he was fired.
