The Moroccan Football Federation on Friday relieved Frenchman Philippe Troussier from the duties of the national team's head coach, a position he held for just two months.

"Our views differed significantly and, unfortunately, we could not continue to work in this way. For this reason, we decided to terminate the contract," the official statement from the Moroccan Football Federation said.

P. Troussier took over the reins of the Moroccan national team on October 29, replacing Moroccan Badou Zaki, who resigned after failing to qualify the team for the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

On Wednesday, the Frenchman was supposed to hold a press conference and announce the team's squad that would participate in the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, but he did not show up.

The 50-year-old coach had signed a five-year contract with the federation, which was supposed to end after the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

P. Troussier has coached Ivory Coast, Nigeria, and the Republic of Congo during his career, earning the nickname "the White Sorcerer" for his successful work with African national teams. P. Troussier has also managed the Japan national team and was dismissed from his role as head coach of Marseille in June 2005.
