The leaders of the outsider of the German championship on Tuesday appointed Swiss Hanspeter Latour as the new head coach of the club.
The 58-year-old H.Latour, who had previously coached Zurich's "Grasshoppers", signed a contract with the "Bundesliga" club until June 2007. Latour, will replace Uwe Rapolder at the helm of "Koln", who was dismissed after 12 consecutive winless matches.
Former goalkeeper H.Latour trained Zurich's "Grasshoppers" for a year before moving to "Koln", and earlier helped "Thun" return to the top division of the Swiss league after almost 50 years.
The German newspaper "Bild" greeted the appointment of the new coach with the headline: "No one from Switzerland will try to save 'Koln'."
Another "Bundesliga" team - Schalke from Gelsenkirchen is currently looking for a coach.
