The defending champions of Spain announced that the number of club members has reached a record high after a huge influx of new members at the end of last year.
In December, about 2700 fans became members of "Barca" club, known as "socios", with the total number reaching up to 134 thousand. According to the club's statement, most of the new members were young children who received the membership as a Christmas gift.
Barcelona's fan club is the largest in the world, and their stadium can accommodate more than 98 thousand spectators.
A couple of days ago, Barcelona broke Real Madrid's record by extending their winning streak to 16 matches in a row. They achieved this by crushing the third division team Zamora 6-0 in the King's Cup quarterfinals.
The previous record belonged to Real Madrid, who won fifteen consecutive matches in the 1960-61 season of the Spanish championship.
