Amsterdam defender Julien Escude has agreed to move to Sevilla, the Dutch club announced on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old Frenchman, who transferred to Ajax from Rennes in 2003, has rarely made it into the starting lineup of the Amsterdam team this season.
Although the transfer fee has not been officially announced, the media reports that the Dutch giants will receive around 2 million euros.
Sevilla manager Juande Ramos has been searching for a defender for some time now, as veteran Pablo Alfaro moved to Racing Santander and another defender, Pablo Ruiz, suffered an injury.
This transfer likely closes the door for Argentine left-back Walter Garcia to move to Sevilla, as J. Escude can play both as a left-back and center-back.
However, it is said that Sevilla will still aim to acquire a right-back during the winter transfer window. The first candidate on Juande Ramos' list was the unattached Spanish right-back Josemi from Liverpool, but he has since moved to Villarreal.
