One of the newcomers in the Italian "Serie A" championship, after an unsuccessful streak of nine matches in which only two points were won, was relieved of his duties Mario Somma and appointed Luigi Cagni in his place.
Last season's "Serie B" champion "Empoli" started the season in the country's elite league quite successfully, but later found themselves in a crisis of play and now with 19 points in 20 matches they occupy the 15th place, four points ahead of the "Parma" team located in the relegation zone.
Although on Monday club president Fabrizio Corsi said he was not planning to dismiss the coach, the 1-1 draw with Udinese in Wednesday's match was the last time that 42-year-old M.Somma led the "Empoli" team. The coach's position will now be taken by 55-year-old Luigi Cagni, who has previously coached the "Piacenza" and "Verona" teams playing in Serie A.
