La Coruna and the Spanish national team's defender Juan Carlos Valeron's season has ended. This became clear after detailed examinations of the left knee injury that the Spaniard sustained during Sunday's match against "Mallorca."
J.C. Valeron was a true hero in the match against "Mallorca," scoring a goal and earning an eleven-meter penalty, but later suffered a cruciate ligament injury, which, according to medical professionals, will keep him out of play for six to eight months.
After the examinations, it became clear that the attacking defender will not only miss the remainder of the season but will definitely not participate in the World Cup taking place in Germany this summer.
"Deportivo," for which the thirty-year-old J.C. Valeron has been playing for the sixth season, its head coach Joaquin Caparros stated that the team will greatly miss the defender: "We will try to find a replacement for him in the team, but it will be very difficult. We have time until the end of January to look for players in the market, but it will be hard to find a player like him."
"He is important for the team not only for the goals he scores but also for his role in the team," said J. Caparros. "If he was taking eleven-meter penalties, he would be the team's top scorer."
J.C. Valeron himself stated that he wants to have surgery as soon as possible and return to the field.
Although the defender was not called up to Spanish national team trained by Luis Aragones last year, experts stated that he would have most likely been selected for the World Cup in Germany this season, as he has demonstrated excellent form.
J.C. Valeron, who has represented the Spanish national team 46 times, played in the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea and the 2004 European Championship in Portugal.
Meanwhile, Spanish national team captain Raul and Xavi are currently recovering from serious knee injuries and are racing against time to recover before the World Cup, which begins on June 9th.
