As Racing Genk club announced on Monday, the Nigerian national team goalkeeper decided to end his professional career.
"Sunday came to me in the morning and asked to terminate his contract, citing his decision to end his professional career," said Genk sports director Ariel Jacobs. "He said he wants to start a new personal life."
The 31-year-old S. Oliseh joined Genk last year from Borussia Dortmund and signed a contract with the Belgian club until 2007. The last match of the Nigerian, who was not called up to the Africa Cup of Nations participating Nigerian national team, was Sunday's match against Charleroi, which Genk lost 2-1.
S. Oliseh began his professional player career in 1990 at the Belgian club Club Liege. Later he played for Reggina, Koln, Ajax Amsterdam, Bochum, and Borussia Dortmund. He also helped the Nigerian national team win the Olympic gold at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.
