The club pleasantly surprised its fans on Friday evening. It has been officially confirmed that the 30-year-old striker Robbie Fowler is returning to the club after more than a four-year break.
The experienced footballer has signed a contract until the end of the season. Meanwhile, the team where R. Fowler has been playing for the last three seasons, will not receive any financial compensation by mutual agreement.
It was precisely in "Liverpool" where R. Fowler's career started in 1993. Spending almost nine years in the team, during which he managed to become one of the most beloved players by the club's fans, the Englishman played in 330 matches and scored 171 goals. However, in 2002, after conflicts with the then "Reds" manager Gerard Houllier, R. Fowler decided to leave.
Despite that, his career in other clubs was not as successful. After spending just two seasons at "Leeds," the footballer transferred to "Man City" for 6 million pounds. Becoming the highest-paid player in the Manchester team, R. Fowler suffered from injuries for a long time and couldn't fully showcase his potential. Due to various injuries, the striker barely played this season.
Nevertheless, as soon as he recovered, the Englishman proved that he hadn't lost his talent - in the English Cup against "Scunthorpe," he scored three goals and managed to make an impact in a "Premier League" match.
Born in Liverpool, the Englishman, whose salary at "Man City" reached 35,000 pounds per week, was delighted to return to his native "Anfield" stadium: "When I left, I always felt deep inside that I would want to return here and although it took a long time, I can finally say that I have returned. The decision to leave "Liverpool" is probably one of the biggest regrets I have had until now.
I am extremely happy. I still cannot believe that this happened and I am still in a state of shock." In his "new" team, R. Fowler will debut in the near future.
