Although it was already clear before the last - third - round of the Africa Cup of Nations C Group who would advance to the quarterfinals, Guinea unexpectedly clinched a crushing victory over Tunisia in the leaders' duel, finishing first in Group C.

Guinea's footballers crushed Tunisia's 2004 Africa Cup of Nations champions by 3-0, with Ousmane Bangoura and Pascal Feindouno scoring two goals in the match.

In the other group matches, South Africa lost the honor duel to Gambia's footballers 0-1. South Africans finished last in their group, withdrawing from the tournament without scoring a single goal. Due to this embarrassing performance, South Africa coach Ted Dumitru is expected to be dismissed soon.
