On Monday, San Sebastiano, who had fired the head coach, strengthened themselves on the last day of the winter transfer window by signing two defenders: Mark Gonzalez, who represented Liverpool as a right back, and John Viafara, who represented Portsmouth.
Chilean national team defender M. Gonzalez moved to the European champion club last October, but never played for Liverpool due to a serious knee injury and work permit issues.
"I am coming to San Sebastian in good spirits and wanting to help Real Sociedad play better in the Spanish championship," said 21-year-old M. Gonzalez, born in South Africa.
Meanwhile, Colombian national team member J. Viafara, who won the Libertadores Cup with Once Caldas, arrived at Portsmouth at the beginning of the season.
J. Viafara stated that his countryman Victor Bonilla and Portsmouth goalkeeper Sander Westerveld, who had previously played for Real Sociedad, spoke highly of the Basque club.
"I am very happy to be here and I am ready to play whenever the coach needs me," said the 27-year-old Colombian.
After a 3-1 loss to Alaves on Sunday, Real Sociedad dropped to 15th place in the Spanish championship. Following this defeat, head coach Jose Maria Amorrortu was dismissed and replaced by Gonzalo Arconada, who had been coaching the club's youth team until then.
