One after another, new footballers are strengthening the outsider of the English Premier League before the end of the winter transfer window. On Monday, the team was joined by the Englishman Wayne Routledge, and the Serb Ognjen Koroman on loan, and today the club also leased the Argentinean Andres D'Alessandro.
The 21-year-old right-back W. Routledge moved from Crystal Palace to , but this season he has played only two matches in the league from the start of the season, so the London club loaned him to Portsmouth. Meanwhile, the 27-year-old Serbian and Montenegrin national team defender Ognjen Koroman, who has played his entire career in Russia, was loaned to the English club by Grozny.
But perhaps the most famous new player to join Portsmouth's ranks was the 2004 Olympic champion midfielder A. D'Alessandro, who represented the club for the last three years, played 53 matches, and scored 11 goals.
"This guy is really a good playmaker, and there aren't many like him. This is a great purchase for the club, and I am happy about it. Now we have players who can strongly influence the course of the match, and this man is one of them," said Portsmouth head coach Harry Redknapp.
In the summer of 2003, the Argentine national team defender, who transferred from "River Plate" club to Germany for about 10 million euros, was considered one of the most promising players of his generation. Although he played fairly well in the Bundesliga, he only managed to play in the Intertoto Cup once with the average "Wolfsburg."
It was thought that the player had lost motivation and wanted to change clubs, and over the weekend A. D'Alessandro was not even included in the squad for the match against Borussia Dortmund. Portsmouth were the first to take advantage of this situation, leasing the Argentine until the end of the season with the possibility of later acquiring him.
