The defending French champions and current leaders in the "Ligue 1" championship have lost another defender - Sylvain Monsoreau suffered a calf muscle injury and will not be able to help his team for at least 4 weeks.

The player got injured during the weekend match against "Bordeaux," which ended in a 0-0 draw for "Lyon." After more detailed examinations following the match, it was revealed that the injury was more serious than initially thought, and the player will be out of action for 4 to 6 weeks.

This means that he will miss the UEFA Champions League match against the "PSV" team. Now, "Lyon" coach Gerard Houllier must address serious defensive issues as, apart from Monsoreau, four other key defenders of the club are currently injured - Eric Abidal, Claudio Caçapa, Anthony Réveillère, and Jérémy Berthod. Another defensive player, Lamine Diatta, is still representing the Senegal national team in the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Due to the lack of defenders, a few weeks ago, Patrick Müller, a former player for the Swiss national team and "Basel" club, returned to "Lyon," where he had played several years ago. However, he will not be able to assist his team in the UEFA Champions League matches since he was already registered for "Basel" in the tournament this season.
