Forward Patrick Kluivert will undergo exploratory surgery on his right knee in the near future in the Netherlands, the official website of a Spanish club reported on Tuesday.
The 29-year-old Dutch national team striker complained of pain in his right knee last week after training, so it was decided to have the operation next week.
Since arriving from Newcastle in June last year, Kluivert has been plagued by injuries. His transfer from the English club was delayed for three weeks until the medical staff at Valencia confirmed that the player had recovered from arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.
Since then, the Dutchman has been constantly plagued by muscle and joint injuries, which have only allowed him to play one match in the starting lineup in the Spanish championship and have appeared on the field eight times as a substitute.
