Attacker Andy Cole will be unable to play for at least a month due to a cruciate ligament injury suffered in Sunday's match against Charlton.
The former England international suffered the injury in the second half of the match against Charlton, which Man City won 3-2.
"A.Cole was operated on today and we believe he will be out for four to five weeks," said Man City manager Stuart Pearce on Tuesday.
Man City is hoping for good news soon regarding the injuries suffered by other players in Sunday's match: Chinese international defender Sun Jihai and full-back Trevor Sinclair. Sun suffered a knee injury, while T. Sinclair dislocated his jaw, but he won't need surgery and is likely to play with a protective mask.
