In the Scottish championship on Sunday, there was no intrigue - league leader Glasgow "Celtic" simply crushed one of the championship outsiders "Dunfermline" with a score of 8-1 on the road, achieving the record for the largest away victory in the "Premier" league and restoring a thirteen-point lead over second-placed "Hearts".
1 - 8
3` [0 - 1] Stilian Petrov
14` [1 - 1] Andy Tod
24` [1 - 2] John Hartson
32` [1 - 3] Maciej Zurawski
40` [1 - 4] Maciej Zurawski
56` [1 - 5] Maciej Zurawski
74` [1 - 6] Shaun Maloney
82` [1 - 7] Neil Lennon
88` [1 - 8] Maciej Zurawski
The visitors started the match very successfully and took the lead as early as the 3rd minute when the unmarked Stilian Petrov scored a simple close-range shot, but in the 14th minute the score became equal - following a scandal before the match involving sharp criticism of his teammates, Polish goalkeeper Artur Boruc's mistake allowed Andy Tod to head the ball into an empty net.
However, ironically, one of the criticized players soon restored the lead - just ten minutes later, after the "Dunfermline" goalkeeper punched the ball away, John Hartson was the first to react and scored. Another Polish player, Maciej Zurawski, secured a convincing lead for the visitors in the first half, scoring a penalty and adding another goal later on.
After the break, the hosts' humiliation continued, and the same M. Zurawski added a "hat-trick" to his account, while in the second half, after a pass from the Polish forward, Shaun Maloney scored the most beautiful goal of the match with an acrobatic shot.
As the match was coming to an end, "Dunfermline" completely collapsed, and even the rarely scoring Neil Lennon took advantage of the opportunity to score, marking his first goal in the last four years. In the 88th minute, M. Zurawski scored the eighth goal for "Celtic" and his fourth in the match.
After such a victory, the Glasgow club not only restored a 13-point lead ahead of "Hearts", but also entered the history of the "Premier" league - until now, only "Celtic" had achieved a seven-goal lead, having crushed "Aberdeen" twice, "Rangers" and "Livingston" and "Hibernian" teams last week, but all these victories were won at home.
