Ronaldo: "I can leave Madrid" © EuroFootball.com

"Brazilian national team striker Ronaldo is likely starting to prepare for a possible departure from Madrid this summer, mentioning a disagreement with the Royal club's fans during a press conference.

'The fans have never welcomed me warmly and this needs to be taken into consideration when thinking about the future,' said the three-time world player of the year. 'I have always said that I do not want to be where I am not loved. I have never felt at home at Santiago Bernabeu (Real stadium), and the fans have never liked me.'

'I will decide after the season. I made a great effort to come to Madrid and I do not understand why I am treated this way,' added the 29-year-old striker angrily. 'I will decide about my future after the World Cup.'

Ronaldo moved from Inter Milan to Real in the summer of 2002 after an excellent performance in that year's World Cup in Japan and South Korea. At that time, Ronaldo signed a contract until 2008.

Despite being the top scorer for the Royal club every year since joining Real, Ronaldo never found his way into the hearts of the team's fans.

The striker was booed during Saturday's home match against Vitoria Alaves when he was replaced by Antonio Cassano in the second half. Ronaldo, often criticized for laziness and lack of work ethic by fans, looked disconnected in those matches.

This season, Ronaldo has been plagued by injuries, and in the media, the Brazilian is constantly criticized for his fitness and overweight.

'I often think about the behavior of the fans, I have talked to thousands of people, but I have never understood why the fans are so impatient with me,' continued Ronaldo. 'As soon as I make a mistake, they boo me.'

'Madrid is a very special place and the fans always rejoice when we score after a missed goal, but when we play on equal terms, the fans turn against us,' said the Brazilian. 'We need the support of the fans.'

'I do not know how the fans will react to my words, but frankly, I do not care,' said the striker.

Ronaldo added that he has not yet decided to leave Real, but he stated that he intends to make a decision after the season.
