Over the weekend, the 28th round of matches took place in the French "Ligue 1" championship. The most unexpected result of the round was recorded in Lyon, where the local team Lyon was simply crushed by the Rennes team 1-4.
Already in the 19th minute of the match, John Utaka, who scored all three goals in this match, led the Rennes team ahead. In the 31st minute, Yoann Gourcuff doubled the score, and although Juninho was able to reduce the score from the penalty spot after 6 minutes, in the second half John Utaka added two more goals and Rennes celebrated a convincing 1-4 victory.
The opportunity to significantly approach the leaders was not taken advantage of by the Bordeaux club, which settled for a 3-3 draw at home against the outsider Metz. It is worth mentioning that Metz took the lead twice in this match, and Bordeaux had to equalize the score twice.
Following the victory on Sunday against the struggling Monaco team, Lille moved closer to the Bordeaux club. The only goal in the match that ended 0-1 was scored by Peter Odemwingie for the Lille team. It should be noted that Lille played with ten men from the 51st minute, as Jean Makoun was sent off with a red card.
Not far behind the Lille club is the Auxerre team, which confidently defeated Toulouse 2-0 on Saturday with two goals from Thom Kahlenberg. After this victory, Auxerre, in fourth place, is trailing Lille by 1 point, and Bordeaux by 7 points.
A minimal victory was also achieved on Sunday by the Marseille club, which moved up to 5th place in the league table. The Marseille players defeated Nice 1-0 at home and took advantage of the failures of PSG and Le Mans.
The first place away victory was not achieved by the Nantes team and the match ended in a goalless draw, while Le Mans lost 0-1 to Saint-Etienne, who have been struggling in recent matches.
