Spanish anti-racists call on players to protest © EuroFootball.com

The leading anti-racism organization in Spain invites all professional football players to postpone next week's matches and thereby show that they would like stricter measures against racism in Spanish football. The request came after Barcelona and Cameroon national team striker Samuel Eto'o expressed his desire to leave the stadium during Saturday's league match against Zaragoza. The best African football player, S. Eto'o, who was elected for the third time in a row this year, was offended in those matches by repeated racist chants from the home fans. "We must ask the Spanish Football Association to postpone the start of next week's league matches by five minutes as a gesture of solidarity to their colleague S. Eto'o and thus accelerate the fight against racism," said the Spanish Coalition Against Racism (CECRA) in a statement. CECRA will definitely discuss this at the UEFA anti-racism conference to be held in Barcelona. Football leaders and the Spanish government should take action to address this issue in Spain. "It is no longer enough to have banners and videos against racism in stadiums before matches. Such racist provocations pose a serious danger to professionals who have to endure the mockery of racists," the CECRA statement said. "This is a serious problem that is not limited to radical fans, it is already beyond the control of clubs."
