The final of the Spanish King's Cup (Copa del Rey) has just ended, in front of 55 thousand spectators, after a fierce and eventful duel, the leaders of the Spanish championship footballers were defeated 3-2 after extra time.

David Beckham, an Englishman, scored the first goal of the match in the 23rd minute with a penalty kick and brought Madrid's "Real" into the lead. However, just five minutes later, Dani equalized the score after a superb pass from former "Real" player Savio. At the end of the first half, in the 44th minute, the referee awarded a penalty to Madrid's "Real" after a rough foul by Guti and it was successfully converted by David Villa. At the beginning of the second half, in the 47th minute, Brazilian star Roberto Carlos again equalized the score with a precise penalty kick. In the 67th minute of the match, "Zaragoza" defender Cani received his second yellow card and was sent off the field, leaving his team with ten men. With the main time ending 2-2, extra time had to be played, during which the "Real" defender Jose Maria Gutis received a red card and after this incident both teams were left with 10 players. This situation, as it turned out, was more favorable for the "Zaragoza" footballers, who scored the winning goal with just 9 minutes left until the end of extra time. It was a precise strike from outside the penalty area by Luciano Galletti.

This was the 6th time that "Zaragoza" won the Spanish King's Cup. The last time they did it was 10 years ago - in 1994, in the final they defeated Vigo's "Celta" footballers in a series of penalty kicks.

This victory secured a place for the "Real Zaragoza" team in the UEFA Cup next year.
