On Friday in Paris, the draws for the 2005/06 UEFA Champions League were made, which brought together the teams still competing in the most prestigious tournament on the continent into four quarterfinal pairs and set their future opponents in the semifinals.
The only remaining English club in the tournament, London's "Arsenal," will face a familiar opponent - Turin's "Juventus," represented by former "Gunners" captain Patrick Vieira. The winner of this pair will play against the league debutant "Villarreal" or the winner of the not yet played match between Milan's "Inter" and Amsterdam's "Ajax" from the eighth-finals.
Having crushed their opponents in the eighth-finals, the strongest French teams "Lyon" now await a similarly impressive opponent in the form of "Milan," while in the semifinals, the winner of this pair will face either the Spanish champions "Barcelona" or Lisbon's "Benfica" club, which has already eliminated two English teams from the tournament, including the defending champions "Liverpool."
The first quarterfinal matches will be played on March 28-29, with the second leg matches on April 4-5. The semifinals will take place on April 18-19 and 25-26, while the Champions League final will be held on May 17 at the Stade de France stadium in Paris.
