In the traditional "Palangos Juze" cup tournament, Šiauliai took third place. Today, the Šiauliai team defeated Kaliningrad's "Baltika-2" (Russia) football players 2-1. The Lithuanian team led 2-0 after the first half.
"Our team scored goals with forward Gediminas Butavičius and legionnaire Ilja Galiūza. What do I think of our team's performance? The team still needs to work a lot. We don't concede many goals, but in the second half, the team's game is stuck. The Šiauliai footballers are not yet well-prepared," said Šiauliai team's head coach Saulius Vertelis on alyga.lt website.
In the "Palangos Juze" tournament, Šiauliai suffered only one loss. In the semifinals, after a penalty shootout, they lost 5-6 to Šilutė's "Šilutė."
In the group stage matches, coach S. Vertelis' pupils played a draw 0-0 with Kaliningrad's "Baltika-2" footballers and crushed Liepaja's "Metalurgs-2" team 5-0.
On March 18, Šiauliai will play the first round of the Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF) cup quarterfinals away with the country's vice-champions FBK "Kaunas" footballers. Last year, these teams clashed in the LFF cup quarterfinals. The first match ended in a draw 1-1, and Kaunas won the second match 1-0.
The official NFKA "A Lyga" website also announced that Šiauliai has added another legionnaire - goalkeeper Ignas Lukovičius from Latvia.
