The leader of the Scottish Premier League, Glasgow Celtic, continues confidently towards the championship title - in the only Sunday match of the championship, the "Celts" defeated the Edinburgh Hibernian team on the road and increased their advantage over the next capital team, Hearts, to 15 points.
1 - 2
24` [1 - 0] Derek Riordan
36` [1 - 1] Shaun Maloney (11m.)
60` [1 - 2] Stephen McManus
The match started despite poor weather conditions, and although the first chance belonged to Celtic, the home team Hibernian gradually put pressure on the opponents and in the middle of the first half broke through - the attack leader of the Edinburgh team, Derek Riordan, scored a great shot from 20 meters.
However, that lead lasted only 12 minutes, as Steven Whittaker brought down Shaun Maloney in the penalty area and the latter equalized with a shot from 11 meters. The second half was started more actively by the visitors, and after an hour of the game, their play turned in their favor when after a corner kick, Maciej Zurawski passed the ball to Stephen McManus who accurately shot into the goal.
A few minutes later, the situation for Hibernian became even more complicated as goalkeeper Simon Brown was sent off for a handball outside the penalty area. Celtic took advantage of the numerical superiority and after another mistake by S. Whittaker against S. Maloney, the away team's forward again took an 11-meter penalty, but this time substitute goalkeeper Zbigniew Malkowski saved the shot.
However, playing with ten men, the hosts were unable to break through the opponent's defense and equalize the score. Celtic secured their 23rd victory of the season and continues to distance themselves from the competition, while the fourth-placed Hibernian now lags behind the Glasgow Rangers by four points in the standings above.
