One of the main defenders of the team, Rafael Marquez, met with the media on Tuesday to express his hope of ending his career specifically in the capital of Catalonia and not planning to go anywhere in the summer. This way, the constant Mexican national team footballer dispelled rumors connecting him with money-grubbing new players in a London club.
"I have a contract valid for another year," the defender said, "and my priority remains Barcelona. I know nothing about any other offer."
In the last time, reports have been circulating in the Spanish press that Chelsea, the team that was eliminated from the Champions League by Barcelona last week, made an offer to one of the best defenders of the Catalonian team.
"I don't know if Chelsea's offer is real or not, but the interest of the London team is pleasant because it means that other clubs notice how I play. I respect English football, but I want to end my career here, in Barcelona," added the captain of the Mexican national team.
Central defender and midfielder F. Marquez, who can play in the defensive positions, arrived in Spain in the summer of 2003 from the French team Monaco for 5 million euros. The contract of the successful player established in the new club is valid until the summer of 2007, but the Mexican hopes to extend it soon for a longer period.
"My immediate plans are to maintain good physical shape for the end of the club season and then successfully compete in the World Cup in Germany," said the 27-year-old footballer.
Remember, the Mexican national team will play in Group D at the upcoming World Cup with Iran, Angola, and Portugal.
