In the highest Belgian football division competing Liege "Standard" announced that they have already agreed on the transfer of the Belgian national team and defender Eric Deflandre to this club at the end of the season.

Deflandre decided to leave the current "Ligue 1" leaders and the last two years' French champions "Lyon" about a month ago and move to his hometown team.

"When 'Standard' showed interest in me, I didn't think long. The truth is, I had also received a very attractive offer from 'Lyon', who offered me a two-year contract, but the opportunity to play for my hometown team was more important to me than money," Deflandre said. "Playing in France, I became a fan of 'Standard' and now I can't wait to help this club fight for the Belgian championship title."

"Standard" is not the first Belgian club that Deflandre has represented. Throughout his career, he has also defended the honor of "RFC Liege" and played over fifty matches for the Belgian national team.
