On Saturday, there were two matches in the Italian championship. Defending champions "Juventus" secured another victory, while last-placed "Treviso" suffered another defeat.
The team of "Livorno" continued their streak of failures, losing at home 1-3 against the championship leader "Juventus" club.
Just three minutes into the game, the "Juventus" team took the lead. David Trezeguet received a header from Pavel Nedved in the penalty area and sent the ball flying towards the goal. However, the hosts did not give up, and a few minutes later, "Juve" goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon had to work when he saved a dangerous shot from "Livorno" forward Cristiano Lucarelli.
Alessandro Del Piero was angry with the referee when the latter did not award a penalty kick to "Livorno" despite Jorge Vargas taking down the "Juventus" captain, who fell to the ground. In the next attack, the home team's goalkeeper had to work as Pavel Nedved ran towards the ball, but the "Livorno" goalkeeper was faster. Just before the break, a defensive error by "Juventus" almost allowed Cristiano Lucarelli to score, giving him a one-on-one opportunity against the goalkeeper.
Seven minutes into the second half, the hosts scored an equalizer. After a pass from Cristiano Lucarelli, Marco Pfertzel had to beat the goalkeeper and this player sent the ball into the goal. However, just thirty seconds later, David Trezeguet once again put the visitors ahead. The Frenchman sent the ball into the opponents' goal after a pass from Pavel Nedved.
After a few minutes, Cristiano Lucarelli missed an incredible chance to equalize the score, receiving the ball near the goal during a corner kick, but the confused forward failed to kick it into the goal. Towards the end of the match, Zlatan Ibrahimović and Alessandro Del Piero played a nice combination, but the Italian missed the target. However, in extra time, "Juventus" captain managed to score and the final result was 1-3, ending the match with another victory for the Turin club.
In the other match, the underdogs "Treviso" had to acknowledge the superiority of the "Cagliari" club with a 1-2 score. The visitors won the match despite playing with ten men for the last fifteen minutes.
