At the 900th goal in official matches was scored by the famous Brazilian forward Romario. The milestone for the 38-year-old player representing the Rio de Janeiro "Fluminense" team happened on Sunday in a match against the "Coritiba" team.
The 1994 World Champion's goal allowed his team to equalize and finish the match with a 1:1 result. After this match, Romario was presented with commemorative "Fluminense" jerseys with the number 900 on the chest.
"I share these 900 goals with all the friends I played with during my football career," said Romario, admitting that he always tries to score as many goals as possible, and his goal is to get as close as possible to the magical thousand mark.
As one of the best Brazilian strikers said in October 2001 after overcoming the 800-goal mark, "it is a very difficult, but achievable task." Romario is considered a very productive football player, he has been named the best striker in the Brazilian championship several times. However, he still has more to strive for. For example, his compatriot, the legendary Pele, has scored more than 1200 goals in his 21-year professional career.
